Economics Professor


Muscatine Community College Adjunct Economics Instructor, educating students through online and classroom instruction in Microeconomics and Macroeconomics.  Managing course website, developing course content, authoring exams, delivering lecture and measuring student attainment. Working with students as they learn and enjoy a positive educational experience.


IOWA HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES                    2005-2011

State Representative


A member of the Iowa General Assembly. Managing legislation, relationships and leading the State of Iowa. Leading diverse interests and groups in the passage of legislation and rules development.  Strong public and private communicator managing public relations campaigns and winning votes. Significant leadership results include:


   Energy Sub-Committee- Chairman                             2007-2011

Managed all Energy policy legislation in the Iowa House of Representatives. Collaborating with Governor’s Office, Speaker, Majority Leaders, committee chairs, governmental agencies, private and public interests in the development, negotiation and passage of Iowa’s energy policy.


   Agriculture and Department of Natural Resources Budget- Chairman    

    2009-2011

Managed the Iowa Department of Agriculture, Iowa Department of Natural Resources, Environmental First Fund, Fish and Wild Life Trust Fund and related appropriations budget bill. Responsible for all committee and budget action including the bills passage in sub-committee, House Appropriations Committee, and The House Floor. Extensive collaboration with the Senate co-chair and the Governor’s Office to insure agreement and passage.


Administrative Rules Review Committee                       2009-2011 

Oversight of the administrative rules process for State of Iowa Executive Branch. Worked with all executive branch agencies and departments as we developed the administrative rules implementing state and federal law.

Served on the following committees while a member of the Iowa House: Appropriations; Energy Sub-Committee (Chair), Commerce, Natural Resources, Infrastructure and Transportation Budget Sub-Committee;  Ag / DNR Budget Sub-Committee (Chair), Environmental Protection, Economic Growth, Agriculture, Public Safety and Administrative Rules Review Committee.


ALLSTEEL OFFICE                                                            2003-2007

Customer Support Representative

Facilitated problem solving needs analysis and implemented innovative client focused solutions with Allsteel Office.  Allsteel is a subsidiary of HNI, a Fortune 1000 furniture manufacturer. Established and managed high performance customer relationships with Allsteel’s national dealer network. Conducted and oversaw dealer / Allsteel relationships negotiating, implementing and delivering; orders, quality issue resolution, logistics support, delivery objectives, supply chain / lead time management, special product engineering requests, technical support and expedited order requests.  Excelled within an ISO 9001 certified production facility implementing rapid continuous improvement / Kaizen process management. 



THE PEPPERSTONE GROUP                                       1993-2005

Manager

Managing partner spearheading the launch of a residential development team. Organized integrated building, financing and home sales platforms as Zebbo construction, Pepperstone Mortgage, and Pepperstone Real Estate. Guided all aspects of the businesses with profitable results. Led a 3-7-person core of employees, sales and support staff. Oversaw supply-chain, outsourced sub-contractors and supplier relationships. Served as the financial officer overseeing cash flow, profit and loss, payroll, floor planning, tax filings and regulatory compliance.  Profitably delivered projects on-time and under-budget.
